Overview
Royce Onsite Machining was mobilised to Asia to rectify severe fretting damage on a large engine, affecting main bearing pocket No. 8 and resulting in misalignment beyond OEM tolerances. Our team delivered a complete on-site laser alignment and machining solution, successfully restoring the engine without the need for removal or strip-down.

- Full laser alignment and dimensional inspection
- Milling of main bearing horizontal faces (1 mm material removal)
- Line boring of main bearing pocket No. 8 to oversize
- Refurbishment of two main bearing caps
Technical Highlights
- Deployment of a custom-designed milling machine equipped with electronic sensors for high-precision control
- Flatness maintained at 99%, with parallelism held within 0.02 mm
- Bore alignment achieved within 0.04 mm
- Final bore diameter finished to 303 mm +0.03 mm
Outcome
The on-site repairs fully restored engine alignment to OEM specifications, extending component service life and eliminating the need for costly dismantling or transportation.
