Rapid Worldwide 24/7 Emergency Machining Services

Onsite Electroplating & Damaged Bore Restoration

Client: EMM Corp
Industry:
Oil & Gas / Offshore Energy
Location:
Aberdeen, Scotland, UK
Service:
Onsite Electroplating & Bore Restoration
Duration:
Completed within shutdown window

Overview

Royce Onsite Machining was contracted by EMM Corp to repair a damaged press-fit bore at an Aberdeen-based offshore support facility.

The bore had been damaged during a press operation, resulting in scoring, material deformation, and loss of dimensional accuracy. This created an out-of-tolerance condition, preventing correct bearing or component fitment and posing a high risk of misalignment and premature failure in service.

Due to shutdown constraints, an onsite restoration solution was required to avoid full component replacement or offsite machining delays.

Scope of Work

Condition Assessment

  • Inspected press-damaged bore for scoring, deformation, and ovality
  • Measured dimensional loss and assessed interference fit integrity
  • Verified structural suitability for onsite electroplating repair process

Onsite Electroplating Restoration

  • Applied precision electro-deposition to rebuild damaged bore surfaces
  • Restored material lost due to press-induced deformation
  • Controlled plating thickness to bring bore back within OEM tolerances
  • Ensured uniform build-up across full bore circumference
  • Prepared surface for final machining and fitment restoration

Finishing & Machining

  • Performed in-situ machining to achieve final bore diameter and geometry
  • Restored concentricity and correct interference fit conditions
  • Verified alignment with mating components
  • Ensured compliance with OEM dimensional and surface finish specifications

Technical Highlights

  • Method: Onsite electroplating and press-damaged bore restoration
  • Technology: Controlled electro-deposition with precision in-situ machining
  • Damage Type: Press-induced bore deformation and scoring
  • Restoration: OEM bore geometry and interference fit restored
  • Downtime Impact: Eliminated need for component replacement or offsite repair
  • Outcome: Restored structural integrity and fitment accuracy

Outcome

The press-damaged bore was successfully restored onsite in Aberdeen for EMM Corp, returning the component to OEM specification within the shutdown window. The repair eliminated the need for costly replacement, restored proper fitment conditions, and ensured continued safe operation of critical offshore equipment.
